[vlc-devel] What is the purpose of "add_shortcut" in a module?

Folks,

What exactly does "add_shortcut" do when you define a new vlc module? 


I have written a module but I don't use "add_shortcut" in its definition. Looks like this property is not mandatory as my module still works okay.
