I don't think this is going to help much. Default CPU consumption has 
dramatically decreased already in VLC 2.0.1. It can reduce even further by 
selecting zero hold order in the preferences ever since SRC was included.

Synchronization (all), volume latency (DirectSound, ALSA, JACK) and pause (all 
except ALSA and PulseAudio) seem to be the main remaining problems on the 
audio side.
