This commit doesn't prevent

> DEPS_gnutls = nettle $(DEPS_nettle)

So the dependency is still being compiled (and gmp since it is a dependency of nettle).

The correct use of the contrib system is to simply deploy the bootstrap script and tell it not to compile GnuTLS, which is what I just committed.
