Well, that patch was not to execute spontaneously but only if invoked by 
the user and also not to speed up anything but only to download the 
content on the users interaction to play back offline or whatever 
purpose without having to use another video download tool. The aim of 
patch 3/3 was to implement a small download button in the qt-toolbar.

This patch is to download one file after another and yes, during 
download art downloads would be blocked. If this patch is interesting 
enough, it should be possible to priorize the album art download a bit 
better,
