Ok, I checked now the compilation flags.
-D__USE_MINGW_ANSI_STDIO=1 is passed when compiling vlc.exe.
I think in that case the *printf* functions are overridden with GNU/POSIX compatible variants.
Maybe they are supposed to work like this (I don't know)?
