I did some more testing and changed around the way I disable the pointer in
my own application...

If I disable the pointer in my own application *before* I display my
application window, the pointer will remain hidden if I mouse over the
embedded video.

If I disable the pointer in my own application *after* I display my
application window, then when I mouse over the embedded video the pointer
appears for 1sec then disappears.

So this might just be a quirk of my UI toolkit that I can workaround in my
own code and this patch is indeed redundant.
