Besides personal cosmetic preferences, there are at least two reasons why 
Windows users rename vlc.exe as a work around:

- They do not know how to undo mute with the Windows mixer, and VLC does not 
use MMDevice as audio output (including VLC 2.2).

- The dGPU driver forces video decoding on the iGPU in a dual-GPU system, and 
the user wants to burn watts decoding video on the dGPU even though the iGPU 
can do it.
