Hi Rémi,

Thanks for the pro-tip.

Turns out it is crashing inside the libav/ffmpeg configure script. It looks like I have my work cut out for me. :)

I don't think I've ever tested against LD being set explicitly.

Dumping core sounds like a bug in your toolchain, not in the VLC build 
system.
