As of `a57d650c` the library is now at version `1.6.0`, which solves the
problem described (so if you plan on looking at the RFC, there is no need
anymore)

Given the outcome I think my questions asked above has been answered
indirectly, but of course a clearification of when one alternative is more
appropriate than another would not hurt (though I'd be fine without such).
