I certainly agree with you; the module is a mess and should probably be
rewritten/removed in the future--especially if the equivalent functionality is
available elsewhere.
Truthfully I get bored easily and I thought that I could just as well clean/fix
the module during my spare time (since it is still part of the codebase).
I understand that it might be hard to get someone to review and merge it into
master given the reputation of the module, but if it makes it inside I would at
least rest a little bit easier at night (knowing that the pile of problems in
the module is not as big any more).
With the goal of becoming more familiar with the codebase, analyzing/working on
different modules (even the poor ones) might help me reach the finish line
sooner. If you got some other piece of advice on the matter I would be very
thankful!
