Err, the regression potential should be evaluated against what MIDI support 
there currently is on macOS (that is to say in VLC 2.2.x). FluidLite was not 
supported in VLC 2.2.x, so it is not that interesting to compare against.

If VLC 2.2 had no MIDI decoder, then the regression potential is essentially 
zero. But if FluidSynth was used...

So what is the plan on platforms that have neither FluidSynth nor 
AudioToolBox? Switching macOS as such is not solving that problem.
