J-B postponed the Wayland embedding ticket before I(or anyone else) could implement it. But that is not the only fatal issue - input handling comes to mind. Not to speak of "non-fatal" issues such as screen capture and skin engine. At this point, we should revert to giving X11 higher priority inside Qt and make it clear that Wayland is unfinished and experimental in NEWS.

You're right about vlc with Wayland still experimental. Actually, qt
with Wayland still has a number of critical open bugs and issues, that
make it difficult to be on a par with X11.
This series of 5 patches could have been important if there was a
willingness to deliver a vlc more functional on Wayland as of today
albeit more frequent crashes or artefacts that are bound to happen.
For the future, hopefully qt will improve and these patches may not be
needed any more.
