Given that you have posted your patch on the mailing-list, I would
recommend that you simply use the code locally at the current time and
wait for others to potentially say that this is a wanted feature
within the codebase (and come up with further rationale for why this
is needed).

If you want to attract more attention to the patch you could post a
message on the videolan forum under "Feature Requests" (and mention
this thread).
