Yes, its the point, because the user is not explicitly
asking for it. Never do stuff the user has not requested.
Having --stated-from-file be the default is extremely
frustrating when you start a file by mistake or if you
have something paused in a running VLC and do not want
to changing the state of that instance.
If the user wants to change the state of a running VLC,
she can just drag the files into that instance.
If the user wants a new instance of VLC, she should not
be required to go to the menu, start a new VLC, and the
drag the files into that instance. Starting directly
form the file manager should be sufficient.
My patch minimises the number of steps required to start
the files in a new instance, whilst keeping the number
of steps required to start the files in a running instance
minimised.
I cannot imagine that it is common that user's want to
stop something that is already running. It more since
to have the default be to append the the files to the
playlist, and start playing if nothing is playing or
paused. That said, start in a new instance is even matter.
