It will not qualitatively improve the feedback. 1 second may be quantitatively 
50% faster than 2 seconds, but it remains qualitatively infuriatingly slow. It 
is not worth the risk to screw up audio buffering, IMO.

Anything slower than 300 ms is annoyingly slow. Anything slower than 100 ms is 
noticeably poor even if acceptable. Human can sense audio delays from rougly 
40 ms. Unfortunately, those values are much too short for generally safe 
underflow-free/stutter-free VLC audio playback.

We have already been through this a few years ago already. There are no known 
good ways to amplify sound on Windows, except when the replay gain is known in 
advance (which it almost never is).
