The  add_event_locked addition is an improvement not related to this patch that should be in a separate commit.

This leaves a basic timing handling code comparing 2 dates. It's not that complicated. I don't care whose fault it is and I don't have the proof that it's Gnome fault.

The typo in 0a8a30e8dbcce6176d0263d10902e70282656d63 made my whole desktop environment unusable for 30sec when playing .ts files. Even without this typo, I already saw a lot of time my desktop freezing because VLC was opening or failing to open files in loop.

I strongly believe that this patch is necessary.
