Both.

Yes. No difference within 1%.

Disabling hardware acceleration from CLI also makes no difference.

You mean with --gl ?

If I force EGL, it fails much faster, and falls back to XVideo.
If I force GLX, it saves maybe ~10% but is still insanely slow.
