I also noticed that the field failed for windows and
although I am not 100% sure, I think this patch should fix
it.

I re-cloned latest 3.0 and applied only the of patches
wediscussed. 
Here is the branch with the required commits:
https://code.videolan.org/sammirata/vlc-3.0/-/tree/rist
It has no dependencies and it does not touch the core,
GUIor build system. Basically, it adds two new modules,
ristaccess and rist access output without touching
anythingelse in the tree.
Thanks, patchset looks good to me. If nobody minds, I'll
merge it into3.0.12 now/today/tonight (or fine with me if
someone does it withoutwaiting that long).
