You don't have to add p_, that stand for pointer since the vector is not a pointer.
By the way, we tend to not use this old Hungarian notation in new code.

After closing (with success), you can get the result of the memstream with payload.ptr (that you should free after usage).
Therefore, you don't have to keep the memstream object.
