This is pointless. It'll only piss off people trying to build VLC who might 
genuinely not need/care AV-1, and/or will turn it off anyway.

That's not how Linux distros are going to ship dav1d. That's not how Linux 
users will turn to their distro rather than VideoLAN for difficulties playing 
AV-1 streams either.


And generally speaking, the usability problems with the configure script's 
output and error handling are very real, but they are in no ways specific to 
dav1d.
