Update from the VideoLAN Soc_2026 page: https://wiki.videolan.org/SoC_2026/#VideoLAN_AI_Policy_for_GSoC_Participants

AI tools can be valuable for experienced developers who already understand the code they are working with. However, when you are still learning, they can do far more harm than good: they shortcut the thinking, debugging, and problem-solving that are the entire point of a program like GSoC. You will not become a better developer by letting a model write your code, your proposals, or your emails.
**
*AI-generated content is not permitted in any part of your GSoC participation with VideoLAN.*
**This includes, but is not limited to:
 • Code contributions (patches, modules, tests)
 • Project proposals and applications
 • Communications with mentors (emails, chat messages, meeting notes)
 • Bug reports and merge request descriptions
If you have a question about the codebase or your project, ask your mentor: that is what they are there for.

*Enforcement.*
**Contributions or communications that appear to be AI-generated will be rejected. A first violation will result in a formal warning. Further violations may lead to a failing evaluation.

*Qualification tasks.*
Proposals and qualification tasks that show signs of AI generation will result in the applicant not being selected.
