Video CD's Under Linux

Hi all,
I need to set up my linux box to play back VCD's because I have to
demonstrate this at a Linux EXPO.
I was firstly operating on Kernel 2.2.14, and when I try to playback the
mpeg stream, it gives i/o errors. I tried to find VCD support desperately,
but failed.
However, reading the kernel 2.2.16 Kernel source (cdrom.c), I saw something
about VCD's, so I downloaded it and installed it.
I still have the same problem. I've reached the conclusion that VCD support
(CD-Bridge) wouldn't be something user-space (unless you're using propietry
mtv, but I want to stick to GPL). I tried using vIc as well, but it didn't
work either.
Can anyone help me out? you can respond to my private email address, if
this is irrelevant in this mailing list.
Thanks a heap.
