vlc does ok for awhile and crashes

   This is a bug that got introduced in the subtitle decoder, and it is
the very next thing to fix on my TODO-list.

   A quick fix could be to launch vlc with a non-existing subtitle
channel such as '-s 42'. Hope it helps before a real fix arrives.
