probs with encrypted dvds

Hi 

I have a Pioneer slot type 105 drive modified to region free.  I 
cant play encrypted movies on either xine complete or vlc 2.70, 
and a post 2.71 snapshot..  I have not yet gone to 2.72 as the 
rpms are glib2.2.  I have a review which says there are probs 
with this drive.

i mount the dvd under /mnt/dvd, although have also set up the 
symlink

        vlc dvd:.nnt/dvd

All commands run as root.  Has anyone had any joy with as pioneer 
105 dvd rom or have i bought the wrong drive
