I am having probs using vlc 2.72 because the rpm s are glib2.2 i
am nervous of breaking everything else if i upgrade glib.  Maybe
when i go to mandrake 8.0.

I have tried compiling from source but i have sdl errors and if i
omit sdl i cant install it.

make install gives

[root at localhost vlc-0.2.72]# make install
mkdir -p /usr/bin
/usr/bin/install -c vlc /usr/bin
/usr/bin/install: vlc: No such file or directory
make: *** [install] Error 1

okay after chmod 666

[root at localhost vlc-0.2.72]# vlc dvd:/dev/hdc
VideoLAN Client - version 0.2.70 Urumov - (C)1996-2001 VideoLAN

intf: interface initialized
vout: video display initialized (720x576, 15/16 bpp)
input: opening dvd:/dev/hdc
css error: ioctl_ReadCopyright failed, make sure DVD ioctls were
compiled in
css error: could not get copyright bit

I have tried both the stock mandrake 7.2 kernel and a self
compiled 2.4.2 kernel both give the above error, although my
nvidia driver fails with corruption, another story:)
