The newer version 2.8.0 for Mandrake is calling for XFree86-4.1.
Didn't want to install this as yet since these are development rpms for
Mandrake system. Wanted to try an older version of VLC to see if I could get
it working before I broke anything by installing XFree86-4.1.

Trying vlc as user producing this message (program launching but no ability
to open a file):
