vlc segfaults right at the beginning

Redhat 7.1 Gnome Workstation fully updated with up2date

vlc-0.2.81.1.i386.rpm

[krelis at droev182 krelis]$ vlc
illegal instruction : optimization disabled
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
[krelis at droev182 krelis]$ 

vlc doesn't crash when I build it from 

vlc-0.2.81.1.src.rpm 

with
./configure  --prefix=/usr --enable-gnome --enable-esd --enable-debug
