Great Picture No sound

I downloaded the rpm package first and didn't get any sound. Then I compiled 
my own version and still no sound.   the player does a great job with the 
video feed, just no sound out of either esd or alsa.  Suse 7.3 on a Athlon 
1GHz and All In Wonder Radeon Video Card
