did that. requires upgrading of roughly 20 packages but hey, that's
what you pay for living on the bleeding edge, isn't it? :)

it now compiles just fine. it starts up and shows a window with
"videolan client (0.2.60)" and then starts to work on the dvd. nothing
else, for about one minute. re-running with --warning shows that it's
in a loop:

garbage at input (3002ff)
garbage at input (34000000)
garbage at input (38000000)
(repeat)

this is the matrix, zone 2, which is known to not work with older
versions of decss as well.

blade runner (director's cut, zone 1) fails more spectacular:

input: opening file /dev/dvd
Garbage at input (2a5544)
Garbage at input (22b4e53)
Garbage at input (5010000)
Garbage at input (2a5544)
Garbage at input (2a5544)
Garbage at input (22b4e53)
Garbage at input (5010000)
Garbage at input (2a5544)
Garbage at input (2e000000)
Garbage at input (1)
Garbage at input (1560000)
Garbage at input (1ea0000)
Read failed (Operation not permitted)

similiar problems (other addresses, but same symptoms) with several
other DVDs.

I'm running these tests as root in order to avoid in problems with
permissions on the devices or such.

what details do you need so this is of any help to you?
