AC3 downmixing

I posted a few days ago saying that audio on my Contact DVD was both
noisy and all coming out one speaker.  Now it is very nice and smooth,
but the speaker problems persist.  After listening carefully, it almost
seems like the front channels are getting mixed and sent to the right
speaker and the rear channels are getting sent to the left speaker.
