FreeBSD and ports vs. vlc

So? Your "insight" haven't changed that ports install them in one place
and vlc looks for them in other places... 

Ie., there is nothing that's called sdl-config on FreeBSD... it's called
sdl11-config... and gtk12-config etc. etc.....
