FreeBSD and ports vs. vlc

I'm running 4.1.0.  I thought hardware support was supposed to be improving?

Which DVD drive?

Mine is:
acd0: <TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-C2402/1317> DVD-ROM drive at ata1 as master
