Only showing half the screen

A very strange thing happened today. After using Videolan to play plenty
of DVDs, today vlc will only show half of the screen, no matter what
width, height I use, or wether I play it windowed or fullscreen.
The only thing thing changed is a reboot, and I cannot find any
error-messages.

On a second note, I've never been able to use subtitles, may be because
I cannot find the libdb3.so.3 that the vlc-rpm seems to depend on (I run
Red Hat 7.l), so I've nodep'ed it.

Btw, the hardware is a Dell Inspiron 5000e laptop with Ati Rage 128, I
run X in 1600x1200.
