ioctl_ReadCopyright failed

hello,
im having some problems with getting the vlc running.
when i try to have vlc play a dvd i just get this error
over and over, hundreds of times. on the dvd machine i am running the RH
2.2.19-6 kernel. i have vlc-0.2.73-1 from the src rpm.
