SleepyCat DB requirement nightmare!

    I've dealt with Berkely DB before and it's a nightmare.  They did the
API change a while back and I also never get the right libraries.  Arggg!

    VLC requires libdb3.so.3 but no matter what DB package I install (I'm
installing several different V3 series) the library name never satiates.

    What is the "official" install used by the VLC gang?
