Trying to use vlc on os x

great, thanks, now it's working!  Very nice.  Is there any way that I 
can read .mpg files directly off of an SVCD disc?  OSX is able to mount 
it but when I try to open the mpg files from vlc, I get a 'bus error'

If I can do that, I will be completely happy!
