vlc reads only part of DVD

   Well, the bug was only DVD-related, and only for some models, so it's
not surprising it was unnoticed at first. I really suggest you upgrade
to a more recent kernel before doing any further investigation, 2.4.2 is
more than 8 months old.

   Does the kernel say anything interesting (using dmesg) after vlc
refuses to play the DVD? A verbose log (using the -vvvvv flag) might be
helpful also.
