Hello (i'm sorry for the post in the vls mailing list, bad mistake)

I have a couple of question about the vlc (which is really very great !
Good job guys):
Why is it impossible to apply definitively the preferences ? It's such a
pity to change the audio and video devices at each startup :( (I know i
could make aliases with command line options, but i'm too lazy). Is it
so difficult to code ?
And second question: The command line parameters don't seem to work:

~% vlc --noaudio vlc_overlay=0 rolandeau.mpg 
VideoLAN Client - version 0.2.90 Ourumov - (C)1996-2001 VideoLAN


Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library
input error: cannot stat() file `vlc_overlay=0' (No such file or
directory)
intf: program terminated

Hu ?
(It actually works with overlay, but i wanted to make a screenshot)
Have I missed something ?
