VLC MacOS X build

Hi, I just got the 0.31 binary and am trying to run the Mac OS X build on
10.1.4, I try to launch it from the command line and I get this message:
dyld: ./vlc can't open library: /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.6.dylib (No such file
or directory, errno = 2)
Obviously I don't have X11 innstalled and have no intention of doing so.
Does vlc require X11? Someone told me it does not, what am I doing wrong?
If I try to double-click the vlc app from the Finder, it quits without
actually doing anything.
What exactly am I doing wrong, does it require X11? I have RTFM and
whatever I do, I get that error.
Thanks in advance,
./km
