audio on OSX

Hello....i was wondering if there was a way to force mono playback of a SVCD 
on OSX.  I have a disk that has a few channels of audio (more that 2 i 
think....but just can tell at this point).  when playing the disk or the 
mpeg file the the dialog or voice track intermittantly freezez and stutters. 
  when it recovers the dialog is a second or so out of sync but the 
backgrounds are still in sync - and always remain in sync.  the image 
playback is great aswell.  any suggestions?
