image resize?

hello all,
i see that i can resize the image in vlc, but the aspect ratio stays 
locked.  is there any way to 'stretch' the image?  i know in 
quicktime player this was done by holding down the shift key and 
resizing.
this be be GREAT if it existed, either now or on future versions.
I have an svcd with a 'squished' image horizontally.
