If you run vlc with the --noaudio option, you should avoid this segfault. I 
know it's not really a solution but at least it would be interesting to see 
if you still get the segfault.

You can also try to use the a52 plugin to decode the ac3 soundtrack ( vlc 
--ac3-adec=a52 ) but I'm not sure it will solve your problems. Worth a try 
though ;-)
