[vlc] vlc crashes - help..

Hi,
when I "open" a dvd using  vlc 0.4.6 which I built from tarball,
it immediately crashes with following console message.

VideoLAN Client - version 0.4.6_2002-11-15 Ourumov - (c) 1996-2002
VideoLAN

Gdk-ERROR **: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
  serial 21 error_code 2 request_code 1 minor_code 0

Any advice?
