[vlc] How to play XviD files with vlc?

I am using vlc 0.46 on OS X and I'd like to know how to play XviD 
encoded files, I assume you can do this, I've read that this is 
supported in this build.  Is this platform specific or for all 
platforms?  The file has a .OGM extension.
