What do you mean by editing? If you mean cutting and splicing MPEG2
clips, then QuickTime Pro with an MPEG2 plugin can do that. No need for
anything fancy or expensive.
Otherwise, if you need to open the video clips and re-encode them, your
best bet is to open them in QT Pro and export them as raw DV. Then you
will be able to load them into Final Cut Pro or any other NLE. Oh, and
you'll need a large hard-drive as uncompressed video is huge.
