I've built gettext from sources :

$gettext -V
gettext (GNU gettext) 0.11.5

but I always have a problem with boostrap (cvs of today) :

+ aclocal-1.6 -I m4
aclocal: configure.ac: 59: macro `AM_GNU_GETTEXT_VERSION' not found in library
+ exit 1
