[vlc] 'Native' audio only (mp3) streaming with vls/vlc ?

Hello,

I wonder if somebody tried to make vls stream mp3 files and vlc decode the
audio. Is it correct to say
that vlc can only receive MPEG 1/2 PS/TS streams right now ? Are there any
plans to add mp3 streaming ?
If not, did somebody figured out a way to embed a mp3 audio stream into a
mpeg2 stream and then
decode it with vlc ?
