Actually no, the right command would be "vlc --intf dummy dvd:/dev/dvd 
-vvvv"

Could you check this again with the above command?

The other thing you could try is to play with the DVDCSS_METHOD environment 
variable. Try to set it to the different choices available 
(title|disc|key).
