mp4 files - how to install the (cvs) mp4 plugin in macosx

hi
it seems the .mp4 file support in vlc is still in development (same with 
.mov files?) - i want to take a try and install the mp4 plugin which i 
dl from the cvs repository.
problem is: i don't know how to install the files. do i have to compile 
the whole package, or can i just add this part? what else do i need?
help would be really appreciated!!

oh, by the way, does anyone know if there is an aac decoder in the make?
