[vlc] vlc on ps2?

I know this has been asked before,
but I wonder now with the mame emulator that runs off cds in the ps2 (there
is obviosly a way that things can now be accessed from the dvd drive) and
other utlities that store themselves on the memory card, (not utilising and
infringing on sony software).  If it would now be possible to port vlc to
playstation2,  if this would be possible you would have the first standalone
dvd/divx  player. Is there any chance this could possible happen?
